Vacation on a yacht on the island of Ugljan





Ugljan is located northwest of the island of Pašman. It is separated from the mainland by the Zadar channel, and to the island of Pašman by a bridge. It has a surface of 51,85 square km, while the shore line is 74 km long. The climate is Mediterranean with dry summers and mild winters. The island is rich in vegetation; covered with dense bush, pine trees, olive-groves, fig-groves, vineyards and other Mediterranean vegetation. The sea of the archipelago of Zadar is ideal for sailing, bathing, fishing and all types of excursions. 


The island was densely populated during the Roman period. Ruins of ancient buildings have been found in the north western part of the island. The name “Ugljan” was first mentioned in 1325. Tradition is deeply connected with the life of the inhabitants of Ugljan. Traditional activities today have the function as a tourist attraction. For example olive cultivation, fishery and wine production. All 7 settlements are situated along the coast of the cultivated eastern side of the island. The other side of the island is uninhabited. Inside of the island is suitable for cycling tours and long walks.



The whole island of Ugljan boasts crystal clear water, perfect to dive into from a yacht. The underwater world of Ugljan is rich, diverse, and interesting to explore. Ugljan has a diving center offering scuba diving courses and diving trips. If you're going sailing around the island, you should know that there are 2 well equipped marinas on the island. The Olive Island marina in Sutomišćica and the marina in Preko. If you're in Preko, don't miss the breathtaking view of the city of Zadar and the 200 neighboring islands in the Zadar archipelago, including the Kornati National Park from the 13th century fort on a hill (265 m). There is 20 km of diverse shore with many coves and untouched, raw nature. Some of the the most famous beaches are Mostir beach and the beach of the hotel “Ugljan”. For those who are looking for more privacy, there are Jelenica and Sabuša on the west. The cove of Ćinta is surrounded by cliffs suitable for enjoying the quietness and the sea. The cove of Luka surrounded by the pine forest where you can find a shade, is great for kids. For some entertainment, there are a couple of festivals taking place on the island. Lady of the Snow celebration in Kukljica which celebrates the day when 400 years ago snow fell in the middle of the summer. It takes place in the early August. Fisherman's feast in Kali is a celebration of a local saint. There is a musical program, lots of food and wine, boat performances etc. It's held every year in August. Also, visit some of the great restaurants in the town of Ugljan offering delicious, fresh fish and seafood. 


Although Ugljan is relatively small, it has a unique charm that will make you fall in love with it. Also, it is situated close to some other islands you can also explore like Kornati National park, the island of Pašman and Dugi otok. Sandy beaches, clear and clean sea, unique culinary experience, beautiful Mediterranean landscapes and kind hosts are few of the many reasons why you should spend your vacation sailing around it on your charter yacht.
